Low Carbon and Renewable Energy Engineer -Decatur, IL

This is a salaried, exempt-level position.

Job Summary:

The North American Low Carbon and Renewables Energy Engineer is a salaried exempt position with at least 3 years of industrial energy sourcing and technology experience.

The engineer must have demonstrated technical knowledge in electrical energy sourcing and distribution. They must exhibit the ability to work with ADM organizations and to collaborate with external suppliers and service providers to develop and deliver on a strategy to meet ADM’s decarbonization and energy efficiency goals

The Low Carbon and Renewables Energy Engineer has the following four broad priorities:

  1. Maintain commercial power supplies throughout the region
    • Assess electrical grid quality and recommend action
    • Lead the identification and execution of improvement projects aimed at assuring a safe, reliable, and efficient supply of electrical power from external suppliers
    • Communicate these efforts with stakeholders, obtain buy-in, and ensure alignment in all project phases
    • Collaborate with suppliers to correct supply quality issues and interruptions
  2. Support Procurement Processes
    • Act as an internal consultant in the procurement of utility equipment
    • Collaborate in the review and negotiation of renewable energy contracts
    • Own regional Renewable Portfolio planning and work to execute this strategic with procurement and leadership professionals
  3. Evaluate Innovation Opportunities
    • Serve as technical resource to review renewable energy projects within the Region
    • Align with Energy Procurement to assess financial impacts of power purchase agreements and evaluation of ADM-owned installations
  4. Act as North American Electrical Power Delivery SME
    • Act as the primary Technology Center liaison with ADM Reliability Centered Maintenance and Technical Centers of Excellence in resolving external supply issues such as power factor, harmonics, and grid reliability
    • Serve as technical resource to review renewable energy projects within the Region
Overall, the Low Carbon and Renewable Energy Engineer is expected to work collaboratively as a thought leader directly with internal ADM colleagues as well as external utility providers to ensure the safe, reliable, cost-effective delivery of electricity to ADM locations.

This individual will support the optimization of ADM’s Cogeneration facilities and play a key role in integrating electrical production, steam production and grid power delivery with ADM’s low carbon and energy efficiency commitments (Strive 35).

As part of the Utility Technology Team, the Low Carbon and Renewable Energy Engineer will help to advance projects by providing SME support to Project Managers and Engineers in the execution of efficiency improvement projects. The person may be asked to support data collection, engineering, financial, and technical analysis while collaborating in project approval and execution.

Low Carbon and Renewable Energy Engineer areas include safety, health, quality, and environmental compliance, Regional and local code compliance, electrical system efficiency and cost management, contribution to capital decisions, collaboration with internal energy procurement and accounting colleagues, and sharing technical knowledge with peers and location engineers.

This team member will leverage previous experiences, technical acumen, and cross-functional external collaborations to quickly and accurately identify OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) impacts, contribute to and implement strategic and tactical enhancements, identify best practices as standard solutions, and support related implementation and to engage new technologies.

Required Qualifications:

3+ years of Related Experience
Bachelors degree (or higher ) in Engineering
