Laboratory Technician II/III – Strain Development

Position Summary
Are you a team player? Do you enjoy enabling smooth operations? The Cell Engineering group is looking to hire a laboratory technician (II/III) to assist with crucial daily lab tasks. With this role, the successful applicant will empower scientists to work efficiently and will become an important part of a great team. Proper training will be provided and there will be opportunities to grow.
Job responsibilities
- Prepare liquid and solid media, and reagents
- Wash and sterilize glassware
- Load, sterilize and stock pipette tip boxes
- Autoclave and dispose of lab solid and liquid waste
- Update inventories in the internal system
- Order, store and dispose of chemicals
- Check supply stock levels and place orders
- Unbox and stock supplies delivered
- Clean fridges and freezers
- Submit maintenance requests
- Maintain common lab areas (clean, tidy up, stock)
- Perform general lab organization duties
- Occasionally assist with other lab operations
- High school diploma or equivalent, with 3+ years of laboratory experience, or an associate’s degree with 1+ year of laboratory experience is required
- Previous media and solution preparation experience preferred
- Basic math and problem-solving skills required
- Familiarity with personal computers is required (Microsoft Office)
- Comfortable learning about and using web-based tools for medium preparation, and tracking and labelling
- Able to take verbal or written instructions and work independently without direct supervision
- Pleasure in getting things done promptly and well
- Passion for organization
- Customer service – like approach to role needed
- Must be able to stand for long periods
- Must have regular, prompt attendance
- Capable of lifting a maximum of 50 pounds
- Must communicate effectively and work well in a team environment
- Contribute to a knowledge-sharing, positive, safe and inclusive work environment
