Job Description

Shift Superintendent General Foreman (Corn Plant)- Decatur, IL
This is a full time, exempt position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety and environmental compliance at all times and be proactive in your support, leadership and participation in the company safety program.
  • Is the Haz-mat Leader on shift and is responsible for conducting monthly activities and drills.
  • Ensures shift employee safety training is completed in a timely manner.
  • Develops employees to focus on safety behaviors of themselves and their fellow employees
  • Insures that Incident Investigation Reports are timely for incidents that occur on their shift.
  • Knowledgeable and responsible for environmental compliance and decisions on reportable issues.
  • Maintains an understanding and proactively addresses quality issues throughout the plant.
  • Coordinates and follows through on personnel issues that arise on shift with the appropriate Supervisor and Department Superintendent.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and practices and recommends changes and/or improvements as needed.
  • Mentors new Shift Supervisors. Works with the Shift Supervisors and Department Superintendents to identify training needs and coordinate the training of employees, establishing a high level of skill and job proficiency.
  • Provides input on hourly shift personnel to Shift Supervisors and provides feedback to Area Superintendents regarding the performance of the Shift Supervisors.
  • Works with the Shift Supervisor to maintain discipline within shift and discuss the need for appropriate disciplinary action with the Area Superintendent and Human Resources Manager.
  • Maintains a global understanding the plant operations and is responsible for decision making in all areas of the operation in the absence of day shift management.
  • Ensures completion of requests and instruction in individual department communications.
  • Work on special projects as assigned by the Plant Superintendent and assists Area Superintendents with project work.
  • Make vital contacts with sales, environmental and other contacts where appropriate.
  • Coordinates all maintenance resources in the absence of day shift maintenance management. Strives to adhere to the schedule to maximize efficiency, while addressing any immediate plant operational needs.
  • Acts as the main contact for all security issues in the absence of day shift management.
  • May perform reasonably similar or related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years of production and supervisory experience or equivalent.
  • Timely and consistent self-starter with ability to handle deadlines while prioritizing multiple tasks
  • Demonstrated participation and leadership in plant safety programs.
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and detailed written are needed to be effective in this position.
  • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills are vital to effectively interact with multiple employees, management personnel, and other stakeholders. Interpersonal skills employed include handling conflict; motivating, instructing, and training personnel in a fair, honest, and direct way.
  • Ability to utilize independent judgment to solve problems, have excellent organizational skills, and strive for continuous improvement.
  • Technical aptitude in math, chemistry, and chemical processes.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required for training
  • Basic computer knowledge
