Safety Specialist, Decatur Corn Plant (180), Decatur, IL
This is an exempt level position
Position Summary:
Field Safety Specialist based at the Decatur Corn Processing Plant responsible for supporting the daily h functions of the plant. This position reports directly to the Plant Environmental Safety & Health Manager. (EHS-MGR)
Position Responsibility:
- Work closely with department leadership to achieve safety action plan success. Provide constant and consistent leadership, guidance and mentoring along with training and public presentation as necessary.
- Advise the Plant EH&S Manager and facility management on the status of all Safety Action Plan actions and areas to apply focus and leadership to achieve success.
- Assist in building management and employee dedication and enthusiasm for safety through effective leadership and influence.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety programs and policies through consistent field monitoring and field auditing. Document and provide feedback to the EH&S team for review and revisions to SOP’s.
- Knowledge and understanding of a multitude of health, safety regulations and policies with the ability to communicate the requirements effectively and assist the facility with implementation and management.
- Lead, support and encourage the actions needed that are identified by leading indicators and tracked by a safety management index.
- Document and trend action items, audits and audit findings. Create presentation to train employees and inform colleagues and senior management of status.
- Provide leadership and accountability for safety reporting requirements in a computer safety management system.
- Act as a champion and mentor for colleague safety engagements.
- Participate and have integral involvement in incident investigations. Participate in root cause analysis. (5-Why, Ishikawa, Fault Tree Analysis)
- The majority of time will be spent in the field in support of on going operations.
- Associate or Bachelor degree preferred, within Occupational Safety & Health. (waivable with verifiable field experience)
- 3-5 years active field safety support. 10- hour OSHA, 30-hour OSHA certification.(Construction or General Industry)
- Prior work experience in an industrial environment or industrial construction work experience in a dedicated health and safety position.
- The position requires the ability to work in a variety of environments: varying indoor and outdoor environments to include extreme inclement weather, heat and cold conditions. Traversing various walking conditions, slippery, water, snow, ice, concrete, and muddy areas.
- Climbing stairs and ladders, ascending and descending various heights and platforms. The ability to lift and carry ~25lbs.
- Proven ability to recognize hazards, assess risk and provide coaching in the field.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including public presentations.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn and utilize other standardized ADM systems.
- Proven ability to work effectively and enthusiastically on a team.
- Ability to manage your time in an effective manner to perform task that are assigned.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
The pay range for this position is expected to be between:
$52,800.00 - $99,400.00
