Position Summary
The Rail Transportation Field Specialist is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant transloading of materials from railcars into shipping containers. This includes preparing bulkheads, ensuring accurate container weights using truck scales, securing, and sealing containers, and preparing them for intermodal rail shipment.
The position also involves operating specialized equipment, including the HopperBot railcar clean-out system, to remove residual or off spec and smoldering materials and ensure railcars are properly cleaned and ready for return to service. The colleague works collaboratively with rail yard field operations, logistics, quality, and safety teams to maintain smooth, compliant, and timely transloading operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Railcar Unloading

  • Connect hoses, valves, and fittings to safely transfer materials from railcars into containers or trucks.
  • Monitor product flow, pressure, and temperature to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operations.
  • Verify product type, quantity, and documentation before and after unloading.
  • Move and position railcars using a railcar mover; switch cars as needed.
  • Operate railcar slide gates and the RBT transload auger system.
Equipment Operation
  • Operate the HopperBot railcar clean-out machine to remove residual materials and prepare railcars for reuse.
  • Conduct pre-use inspections and perform basic maintenance and cleaning of transloading and support equipment.
  • Safely operate railcar movers, loaders, and remote-controlled HopperBot systems, as well as other material-handling equipment.
  • Utilize portable fall protection systems in accordance with safety procedures.
Safety and Compliance
  • Adhere to all site safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Use appropriate PPE and follow all rail safety protocols, including blue flag protection, portable derails, and locked switches.
  • Immediately report any spills, leaks, or unsafe conditions.
  • Must have physical ability to lift heavy objects up to 75lbs.
Documentation and Communication
  • Accurately complete unloading logs, inspection reports, and cleaning documentation.
  • Ensure all weigh tickets are properly documented, recorded and filed accordingly.
Training Required
  • Must know how to safely operate railcar mover (Trackmobile)
  • Operate material handling equipment, end loader, back hoe, excavator, .
  • Have fall protection training.
  • Able to learn the remote control Hopperbot system.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders, work at heights, and enter confined spaces.
• Ability to walk up to two miles during a shift, including over uneven surfaces and rail tracks.
• Lift up to 40 lbs frequently and 55 lbs occasionally, including overhead lifts.
• Prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and computer-based tasks.
• Ability and willingness to wear respirators; must be clean-shaven where required for seal integrity.
• Work in hot/cold environments, dust, odors, and noise at or above 85 dB (hearing protection required).
• Ability to work around and operate equipment such as forklifts, reach lifts, and non-DOT trucks.
• Required PPE includes: hardhat, safety glasses, ear protection, gloves, steel-toed shoes, uniforms, and task-specific PPE such as safety harnesses.

On-the-Job Training Requirements
New colleagues will undergo structured on-the-job training to acquire skills and certifications based on established standards, including:
• ADM Safety, Food Safety, Quality, and Environmental Training
• Planner/Operations Training
• Equipment Certifications (may include JLP, Forklift, Non-DOT Truck, Reach Lift, LOTO, etc.)

ADM requires the successful completion of a background check and medical clearance.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

The pay for this position is expected to be:

$26.00/hour
