Job Summary:

At Caterpillar’s Decatur, IL facility, we manufacture and assemble large mining trucks and construction equipment. In this role as a Manufacturing Engineer, you will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and will be primarily responsible for overseeing the processes, tooling and design, and equipment needed to successfully and economically produce assigned parts in accordance with engineering specifications. As a member of the Manufacturing Engineering Team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do:

  • Analyze requirements and make recommendations for facility systems, processes, training, equipment needs, and engineering product designs.

  • Complete both specialized and broad-based assignments / projects which may require collaboration and integration with other functions.

  • Evaluate projects and prepare feasibility studies to define desired results, assess value proposition and determine project plans.

  • Analyze, provide specifications and perform acquisition for new or replacement machine tools.

  • Perform capital forecasting correlation and reporting as it relates to new product introduction and product capacity increases.

  • Manage machine replacement and process improvement projects.

  • Provides manufacturing technical support in process control and internal certification.

  • Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, etc. in performing assigned duties.

  • Perform process improvement activities to reduce material and machining cost.

  • Analyze tooling failures and evaluate tool characteristics and requirements.

  • Improve space utilization in manufacturing and office spaces.

  • Develop and implement machining processes in line with Caterpillar standard processes.

What you will have:

  • Associates degree preferably in Engineering

  • 2 years’ experience as an entry level Manufacturing Engineer

OR

  • 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing and assembly

Top Candidates will also have:

  • Strong skill working with and within electronic systems (e.g., Microsoft Office products/applications, IBM Mainframe
    systems, modern web-based systems, etc.)

  • Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with interpreting CMM results and making appropriate adjustments.

  • Experience with reading and interpreting Caterpillar Blueprints and proficient understanding of GD&T

  • Experience with process FMEAs and work instructions

  • Experience with Fixture Design

  • Experience with Root Cause Corrective Action

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of employees and customers.
