As an Engineering Manager, you will provide both technical and people leadership to a team responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of Ultra Class Large Mining Trucks (320T–410T). This role sits at the center of product excellence—driving quality, improving engineering and factory processes, supporting manufacturing and software development, and delivering next-generation machine capabilities.
You will lead a team focused on making our largest mining trucks safer, smarter, and more reliable, while managing priorities, performance, and budget to deliver real business impact.

What you will do
Lead and develop a team of 9 engineers across two locations, fostering a strong culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Drive product quality improvements for Large Mining Trucks, including change control, software performance, and machine reliability.
Develop and implement engineering Built-In Quality (BIQ) processes to reduce factory deviations and improve execution.
Own and manage the operating budget, balancing resource planning, investments, and contractor support to maximize value.
Drive operational excellence, aligning workflows, resources, and schedules to meet aggressive program timelines.
Partner closely with engineering leaders, technical managers, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams to ensure clear requirements and seamless handoffs.
Monitor performance using data-driven KPIs, adjusting priorities, removing obstacles, and elevating team performance when targets are not met.
Build strong partnerships across divisions and aligned business units to support electrification and advanced product development initiatives.
Education Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
What skills you will have:
Technical Excellence: Strong engineering background supporting heavy equipment. Experience with product development, NPI, and lifecycle management for complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Exposure to advanced technologies such as autonomy, AI-enabled features, electrification, or digital systems. Data-driven mindset with experience using KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics to guide teams
Managing People: Strong coaching, mentoring, and talent development skills to build high-performing teams.
Communicating for Impact: Excellent communication skills with the ability to present to senior leaders and executive audiences.
Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Proven experience driving quality improvements and process optimization in factory and production environments.
Customer/Market Focus: Background in mining operations, field support, or customer-facing engineering roles.
Collaborating Globally: Strong collaboration skills to partner effectively with manufacturing, software, design, validation, supply chain, and product teams.
Influencing Through Expertise: Ability to influence without authority and lead through complex, matrixed organizations.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Top candidates will also have:
Practical experience with machinery and shop environments.
Machine testing experience collecting and analyzing data.
Powertrain integration experience.
Electronics system integration experience.
Knowledge of competitive machines and power trains.
Knowledge of the APQP process, NPI process and 6 Sigma methodologies.
Additional Information:
The primary work location for this role is Tucson, AZ or Decatur, IL, with a requirement to work on-site full-time at a Caterpillar facility.

This role might require 20-50 % travel.

Summary Pay Range:
$159,120.00 - $238,680.00
