Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision of the Manager of Community Day Services (MCDS), the Bus/Van Driver drives Macon Resources, Inc. (MRI) vehicles transporting to designated individuals to and from MRI training sites; physically assists persons served entering and exiting buses/ vans when necessary; and offers suggestions and recommendations to supervisor to assist in the development and implementation of efficient transportation route schedules.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Drives MRI buses/vans, transporting persons served to and from training services and supports; observes all local, state, and federal laws, as well as all agency policies and procedures.
  1. Provides verbal and/or physical assistance when necessary to persons served entering and exiting bus/van.
  1. Completes pre-route safety check prior to beginning each route on Pre-Route Safety Check form; and completes weekly checklist; submits both forms to Lead Driver.
  1. Completes vehicle attendance form for each route driven, submits attendance forms to the lead driver on the last day of the month.
  1. Reports any mechanical difficulties to the lead driver on the same day the problem has been identified.
  1. Reports information to the MCDS or designee which is presented by individuals served/caregivers during transportation. Completes Accident/Incident Reports when necessary. Delivers of log books, messages, etc., to and from MRI.
  1. Assumes the responsibility to attend and complete the initial MRI training requirements (core training and job-specific training). On an ongoing basis, attends and participates in any required recertification or refresher sessions and/or other training deemed appropriate by the supervisor and/or the Program/Department Director within specified time frames.
  1. Participates in agency in-service training sessions as assigned by the supervisor and/or Program/Department Director and/or on a voluntary basis to enhance one's knowledge and skills.
  1. Administers standard first-aid and CPR procedures on an as-needed basis while maintaining current certification for both.
  1. Intervenes in crisis situations as necessary to prevent physical or emotional injury to persons served or others.
  1. Assumes the responsibility for basic housekeeping and sanitation on a daily basis for the bus/van areas.
    1. Reports housekeeping needs (supplies, cleaning, etc.) to immediate supervisor on a daily basis.
    2. Assures that adequate supplies are available in assigned area to meet the hygienic needs of the individuals served.
  1. Communicates, retains, and releases information (both written and verbal) on a need-to-know basis and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and MRI Policies and Procedures.
  1. Practices and enforces MRI Safety Policies and Procedures and assures the safety of staff, persons/families served, agency guests, and agency property.
  1. Keeps supervisor informed verbally and in writing of problems and activities within assigned area of responsibility; refers matters beyond the limit of authority and expertise to the supervisor for direction.
  1. Performs special projects or other related work within the scope of the job responsibilities of this position as required or requested.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be able to demonstrate excellent driving skills; must be 21 years of age; and must maintain a valid Illinois Driver's License, a current IDOT medical card, and a good Motor Vehicle Record.
  1. Experience with adults with developmental disabilities, and knowledge of specialized wheelchair vans is desired.
  1. Must be able to meet the following:
    1. Lift and carry 50 pounds; able to assist in lifting and/or transferring an individual who is non-ambulatory from sitting to standing; standing to lying; back to sitting from all positions.
    2. Full range of mobility: pull, pull, turn, stoop, kneel, reach, bend.
    3. Dependable vision, having visual acuity far and near and normal field of vision.
    4. Remain on feet for a minimum of two (2) hours at a time.
    5. Adequate hearing and/or functional accommodation.
      1. Must be able to read and write complete sentences.
      1. Must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically in both oral and written form and be able to meet and work with the public.
      1. Must be able to complete MRI training requirements.
      1. Must have or be able to obtain first-aid and CPR certification within 60 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
      1. Must be able to maintain payroll, financial, personnel, and information related to persons served as confidential and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and the Policies and Procedures of MRI.
      1. Must be able to adhere to the Safety Policies and Procedures of MRI.
      1. Must be able to counsel advise, teach, resolve conflicts, and direct staff and families.
      1. Must be able to work flexible hours.
      1. Must be able to adapt to frequent change and performs adequately when confronted with critical or unexpected issues; make sound clinical judgments based on sound reasoning in daily and emergency situations.
      1. Must have a means of notifying his/her supervisor if unable to report to work.

Qualifications

  1. Must have a CDL Class C with a passenger endorsement and be able to demonstrate excellent driving skills; must be 21 years of age; and must have a current or able to get an IDOT medical card, and a good Motor Vehicle Record.
  2. Experience with adults with developmental disabilities, and knowledge of specialized wheelchair vans is desired.
  3. Must be able to meet the following:
    1. lift and carry 50 to 85 pounds; able to assist in lifting and or transferring an individual who is nonambulatory from sitting to standing; standing to sitting;
    1. full range of mobility: push, pull, turn, stoop, kneel, reach, bend;
    2. dependable vision, having visual acuity far and near and normal field of vision;
    3. able to sit for two or more hours at a time;
    4. able to hear language spoken in normal conversational tones, with or without correction.
