GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision of the Community Living Services Director, the Residential Supervisor oversees the essential functions of the assigned home, provides care of persons served, supervises staff, and implementation of the individual’s programs, as developed by the Community Support Team.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the community support team (CST) the Residential Specialist provides oversight of the essential functions of the assigned home; provides supervision, training and support to Direct Support staff (DSP) to ensure they are successful. Provides direct training to individuals based upon the written Individual Service Plan (ISP), incorporating the principles of personal choice, community inclusion, self-empowerment, least restrictive environment, and functional skill development into all aspects of training.

  1. Provides supervision to DSPs in the home to ensure they are successful in their role.
    1. Attending monthly CILA leadership development/mentoring
    2. Responsible for staff scheduling in the assigned home
    3. Assumes on-call for assigned home; responsible for responding to after hour emergencies involving staffing and schedule of coverage.

  1. Selects, trains, and develops an effective and efficient staff:
    1. Participates in interviews and recommends applicants for hire.
    2. Establishes and communicates performance standards and objectives and conducts performance appraisals annually or as necessary using Paycom.
    3. Provides orientation to new staff and ongoing staff training; monitors staff training to meet all agency requirements and certification and licensure standards.
    4. Approves time cards, time off requests, and punch change requests to appropriately account for hours worked while maintaining budgeted hours for each home.
    5. Communicates with staff regarding current problems, changes, and new developments in the agency by conducting periodic meetings.
    6. Administers all policies and procedures as developed by MRI; communicates to staff; interprets as necessary, and confirms compliance; communicates with Human Resources for performance management and discipline.
  2. While displaying appropriate role model behavior, encourages independence and self-directed decision-making skills, trains and provides assistance according to the individual wants and needs.
  1. Performs meal planning and makes grocery orders. Completes meal preparation with consideration to dietary constraints; adheres to all sanitation rules; presents the meal in a palatable, family style manner; supervises dining experience; completes clean up.
  2. Ensuring person served are seen by healthcare professionals when needed and according to state guidelines.
  3. Support and assist individuals in activities of daily living.
  4. Implement desired outcomes and document progress.
  5. Assist with completion of individual’s annual or as needed assessments.
  6. Participate in meetings and staffing’s as requested.
  7. Plans and implements social/recreational activities.

  1. Oversees the essential function of care and maintenance of the assigned home.
  1. Learn and keep up with state guidelines and ensure home is regulatory ready.
  2. Oversee vehicle maintenance.
  3. Oversee home maintenance by ensuring maintenance requests are submitted.
  4. Clean facility in order to maintain a safe homelike environment.
  5. Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
  6. Reports non-routine housekeeping/maintenance needs in a timely manner to supervisor.

4. Actively participates in program planning as a member of the CST, including ongoing communication, formal and informal assessment and programming recommendations.

5. Documents in understandable, legible writing data/information pertaining to each individual's written ISP; can obtain this information through interaction with and observation of the individual; can document significant events/occurrence utilizing chronological notes, Accident/Incident Reports and Behavioral Incident Reports; will inform supervisor in a timely manner of any unusual incidents.

  1. Administers healthcare programs and instructions as ordered by the physician; documents healthcare needs, issues and/or results; advocates healthy lifestyle choices; refers all medication-related issues/ needs to authorized staff in a timely manner.

  1. Intervenes in crisis situations as necessary to prevent physical or emotional injury to individuals served or others.

  1. Assumes the responsibility to attend and complete the initial MRI training requirements (core training and job-specific training). On an ongoing basis, attends and participates in any required recertification or refresher sessions and/or other training deemed appropriate by the super-visor and/or the Program/Department Director within specified time frames.

  1. Successfully completes Direct Support Person (DSP) training within required time frames. On an ongoing basis, attends and participates in any required additional training and/or refreshers.

  1. Participates in agency in-service training sessions as assigned by the supervisor and/or Program/ Department Director on a voluntary basis to enhance one's knowledge and skills.

  1. Administer standard First Aid and CPR procedures on an as-needed basis, while maintaining current certification for both.

  1. Provides safe transportation to individuals/families served as required, adhering to all agency policy and procedure and Illinois transportation law.

  1. Communicates, retains, and releases information (both written and verbal) on a need-to-know basis and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and Macon Resources, Inc. Policies and Procedures.

  1. Practices and enforces MRI Safety Policies and Procedures and assures the safety of staff, persons/families served, agency guests, and agency property in all training environments.

  1. Keeps supervisor informed verbally and in writing of problems and activities within assigned area of responsibility; refers matters beyond the limit of authority and expertise to the supervisor for direction.

  1. Performs special projects or other related work within the scope of the job responsibilities of this position as required or requested.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education HS/GED is required. One year of DSP experience is required. Prior supervisory experience preferred.

  1. Demonstrates functional 8th grade literacy through standardized exam.

  1. Obtain and maintain standing as an Authorized Direct Care staff for medication administration.

  1. Complete Direct Support Person training in accordance with state regulations and maintain status on the Habilitation Aid Registry.

  1. Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  1. Must have a phone or the means to be contacted easily outside of work hours.

  1. Must demonstrate the ability to adhere to the Safety Policies and Procedures of Macon Resources, Inc.

  1. Must be able to pass and maintain Illinois State Background Check and the Health Care Workers Registry.

  1. Must have or be able to obtain first aid and CPR certification within 30 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.

  1. Must have reliable transportation to conduct agency business and/or transport individuals served as needed; must maintain a valid Illinois Driver's License and a good Motor Vehicle Record; and must maintain personal auto insurance with minimum coverage of Bodily Injury-Liability per person of $100,000 and Liability per accident of $300,000, Property Liability of $100,000; Medical payments of $5,000; and Uninsured/ Underinsured Person of $100,000 and Accident of $300,000

  1. Must be able to meet the following physical capabilities:
  1. Lift and carry 50 pounds; able to assist in lifting and/or transferring an individual who is non-ambulatory from sitting to standing; standing to lying; back to sitting from all positions.
  2. Full range of mobility: pull, pull, turn, stoop, kneel, reach, bend.
  3. Dependable vision, having visual acuity far and near and normal field of vision.
  4. Remain on feet for a minimum of two (2) hours at a time.
  5. Adequate hearing and/or functional accommodation.

  1. The employee must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents in emergency situations. The employee must possess emotional stability; deal with stressful situations on a regular basis and the ability to deal with illness, death and dying.

13. Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
