GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance & Repair Technician is responsible for the installation, modification, repair, and preventive maintenance on all production, facility, and outbuilding equipment and grounds as assigned to assure a safe, efficient and fully operational facility and equipment to permit persons served to achieve (re)habilitation goals in accordance with agency policies and procedures and licensure, certification and accreditation standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs and documents repair(s) and schedules preventive maintenance to be completed on pre-established time frames for production and building equipment and building fixtures to meet expected quality and in a timely and efficient manner; accommodates the needs of the production areas to eliminate excessive downtime and meeting other agency maintenance needs.
  • Installs new equipment and modifies existing equipment as directed by the Maintenance Manager to meet established time frames and quality of finished work and follows manufacture and safety guidelines.
  • Complete building and outbuilding fixture Maintenance Work Requests (MWRs) received from other program or department staff as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Uses standard maintenance hand tools and tools specific to the agency owned metal working presses.
  • Performs building and equipment checks at the beginning or end of the shift as assigned.
  • Mows; trims lawns, shrubs, and trees; picks up litter; seeds of bare areas as assigned for MRI property(s) specifications using equipment including but not limited to: push and rider mowers; power weed eaters, saws, spreaders, sprayers and snow removal equipment. Removes snow as assigned.
  • Handles and manages industrial materials and completes all record keeping requirements as directed and assigned to meet agency safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly work environment: wipes down maintenance equipment and tables, sweeps the work area and returns all equipment, tools, and supplies to the proper storage areas.
  • Provides back up coverage to the License Plate Foreman to meet production quantity and quality records, while meeting safety requirements as assigned/trained by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Operates a tow motor to load/unload or move materials as requested or required.
  • Assumes the responsibility to attend and complete the initial MRI training requirements (core training and job-specific training). On an ongoing basis, attends and participates in any required recertification or refresher sessions and/or other training deemed appropriate by the supervisor and/or the Program/Department Director within specified time frames.
  • Administer standard First Aid procedures on an as-needed basis, while maintaining current certification for both.
  • Drives safely in an official capacity to conduct agency business for MRI with no transportation of individuals/families served; observes all local, state, and federal laws, as well as all agency policies and procedures.
  • Communicates, retains, and releases information (both written and verbal) on a need-to-know basis and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and Macon Resources, Inc. Policies and Procedures.
  • Practices and enforces MRI Safety Policies and Procedures and assures the safety of staff, persons/families served, agency guests, and agency property.
  • Keeps supervisor informed verbally and in writing of problems and activities within assigned area of responsibility; refers matters beyond the limit of authority and expertise to the supervisor for direction.
  • Performs special projects or other related work within the scope of the job responsibilities of this position as required or requested.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred and advanced training through a junior college or vocational school in industrial maintenance is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of related industrial maintenance experience is required; ideal candidate has knowledge and experience with hydraulic and pneumatic presses, general mechanical skills, and basic plumbing and electrical skills. Experience is preferred in one or more of these maintenance areas: building and building systems, industrial ovens, metal fabrication press brakes, standard industrial electrical systems, and/or the handling of industrial chemicals.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to provide appropriate maintenance and repair of complex industrial metal working equipment, building and building systems; conduct and record equipment tests, parts and tool inventory, and preventive maintenance and must be able to solve practical maintenance problems.
  • Must be able to meet the following physical capabilities:
  • a lift and carry 100 pounds;
  • b. full range of mobility: push, pull, turn, balance, handle, stoop, kneel, reach;
  • c. good eyesight, depth perception, color vision, eye/hand coordina­tion, acuity-field of vision and acuity-near;
  • d. good speech and hearing; and
  • e. good hand and finger dexterity.
  • Must be able to work in the following environment with:
  • a. inside and outside with temperature variations;
  • b. noise and vibration variations;
  • c light and ventilation variations;
  • d. moving objects; and
  • e heights, man-lifts and ladders.
  • Must be able to maintain payroll, financial, personnel, and information related to persons served as confidential and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and the Policies and Procedures of Macon Resources, Inc.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically in both oral and written form and be able to meet and work with the public.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift and pass in-house forklift training.
  • Must have or be able to obtain first-aid certification within 60 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent driving skills; must be 21 years of age; and must maintain a valid Illinois Driver's License and a good Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Must be able to complete MRI training requirements.
  • Must be able to adhere to the Safety Policies and Procedures of Macon Resources, Inc.
  • Must maintain a telephone at the place of residence in order to coordinate job responsibilities.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure and calculate precise measurements to complete maintenance duties.
  • Must be able to read and understand industrial maintenance prints and manuals to complete day-to-day preventive maintenance and repair of industrial equipment and building systems.
  • Must be able to use auditory and visual information to define the cause of equipment problems.
