GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision of the Production Manager, the Materials Specialist transports goods and finished products in a timely cost efficient manner. Verifies incoming raw materials and supplies are within specification and moves raw materials, finished products and agency property into designated locations within the building and into specified outside storage locations and group homes. Verifies the accuracy of shipping documents for shipments. Meets applicable local, state and federal laws; licensure, certification and accreditation standards; and agency policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Unloads inbound shipments utilizing a tow motor and hand jack and moves agency owned and customer owned products and materials to designated dock, production area and storage locations.

2. Inspects incoming materials to assure that items are within specification and free of foreign matter and shipping damage. Processes receiving logs as specifically scheduled to do so.

3. Transports outbound shipments to MRI and customer owned products and materials utilizing agency vehicles or loads external carriers assuring on-time and cost efficient delivery.

4. Ensures housekeeping duties are completed including efficient storage of all MRI and customer owned materials; and maintains clean, orderly work areas.

5. Prepares the necessary paper work for disposal of hazardous materials in cooperation with the safety chair. Makes arrangements with vendor to pick up hazardous materials. Assures hazardous materials are properly stored and handled.

6. Verifies the accuracy of shipment to job orders, job tracking documentation and/or shipping tags. Completes transit papers. Completes and routes invoices for finished/shipped products and services as specifically scheduled.

7. Performs, routine checks and assures timely maintenance on shipping/receiving vehicles and tow motors including scheduled oil changes, tire rotation and tune-ups utilizing designated check lists.

8. Responsible for proper handling and management of hazardous waste and record keeping requirements of EPA as directed and assigned under Policies and Procedures.

9. Works in collaboration with production areas and assures materials in building storage areas and on the work floor are neat, safe and organized.

10. Rotates designated MRI and customer owned materials assuring first in/first out access.

11. Communicates and works in collaboration with other areas within the agency, including but not limited to: Business Administration, Community Day Services, Production areas, Safety Committee members to assure shipping/receiving, invoicing, sales, and production goals are achieved.

12. Supports the procurement of manufacturing, assembly, sub-assembly and service contracts as a base for work training opportunities for MRI service recipients through positive systematic shipping/receiving contact with current customers.

13. Performs inventory of designated MRI and customer owned supplies and processes designated paper as assigned. Performs or assists with the physical inventory at month end as assigned.

14. Provides support for special events by completing set-up and teardown of tables and chairs; assists in kitchen for cook-outs and other catering events.

15. Moves furniture and other needed equipment for group homes and other facilities as needed.

16. Processes purchase orders in accordance with policies and procedures as specifically assigned.

17. Drives safely in an official capacity to conduct agency business for MRI with no transportation of persons/families served; observes all local, state, and federal laws, as well as all agency policies and procedures which includes maintaining a valid CDL license and current IDOT physical examination.

18. Monitors the shipping dock and designated building storage areas to assure that basic housekeeping and sanitation procedures are performed on a daily basis.

19. Practices and enforces MRI Safety Policies and Procedures and assures the safety of staff, persons/ families served, agency guests, and agency property.

20. Keeps supervisor informed verbally and in writing of problems and activities within assigned area of responsibility; refers matters beyond the limit of authority and expertise to the supervisor for direction.

21. Performs special projects or other related production work as required or requested.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

1. High school diploma or GED preferred

2. Must have reliable transportation to conduct agency business and/or to transport persons served; must be 21 years of age; must maintain a valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and a good Motor Vehicle Record; and must maintain personal auto insurance with minimum coverage of Bodily Injury-Liability per Person of $100,000 and Liability per Accident of $300,000, Property Liability of $100,000, Medical Payments of $5,000, and Uninsured/Underinsured Person of $100,000 and Accident of $300,000.

3. Must have one year previous truck driving experience; preference will be given to those with shipping/receiving experience.

4. Must have a minimum of six months previous experience with a tow motor.

5. Must have a means of notifying his/her supervisor if unable to report to work.

6. Must be able to maintain payroll, financial, personnel, and information related to persons served as confidential and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and the Policies and Procedures of Macon Resources, Inc.

7. Must be able to adhere to the Safety Policies and Procedures of Macon Resources, Inc.

8. Must be able to complete MRI training requirements.

9. Must have or be able to obtain first-aid certification within 90 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.

10. Be able to work a flexible schedule.

11. Must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically in both oral and written form and be able to meet and work with the public.

12. Must be able to meet the following physical capabilities:

  1. Lift 40 pounds.
  2. Stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  3. Full range mobility: push, pull, turn, balance, handle, stoop, kneel, grasp, reach.
  4. Good eyesight with depth perception, color vision, eye/hand coordination, acuity-field and acuity-field and acuity-near vision.
  5. Good bi-manual hand and finger dexterity; and communicate.
  6. Adequate hearing.

(May also include) Must be able to work in the following environment with:

  1. Temperature variations.
  2. Noise and vibration variations.
  3. Light and ventilation variations.

13. Must be able to summarize, synthesize and analyze data/information.
