Essential Functions
- Demonstrates ability to review and verify medication orders to assure appropriateness utilizing clinical information in the electronic medical record. Prioritizes medication orders based on acuity and order status (i.e. STAT, NOW, routine).
- Provides appropriate patient specific medication recommendations that ensure safety, quality, and cost effectiveness. Takes responsibility for his/her own learning to ensure quality patient care.
- Oversees pharmacy workflow and supervises the daily activities of pharmacy technicians.
Helps with prioritization, promoting efficient and timely completion of day to day
pharmacy activities, giving direction and feedback when necessary.
- Assists in the education and training of pharmacy students and pharmacy technicians.
- Actively searches for opportunities to increase quality of patient care, increase efficiency of
systems, and find cost-saving opportunities for the organization.
- Serves as a resource for the pharmacy team, nursing, and prescribers for questions/issues related to pharmacotherapy; analyzes literature to support usage and contacts prescribers as needed.
- Compounds and dispenses pharmaceutical preparations which includes, but is not limited to compounded sterile products (IV solutions, injectable medications, and irrigation solutions), oral products (solutions, suspensions), and topical preparations (ointments, creams) when necessary.
