Instructor/Assistant Professor of Exercise Science (Tenure Track)

The School of Exercise Science and Sport at Millikin University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise Science position to begin August 1, 2026. A January 2026 start date is negotiable.

We seek dynamic student-focused candidates with expertise in Exercise Science or related fields. Areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to, nutrition, biomechanics, growth and development, physical education, mind-body health, strength and conditioning, and personal training.

Competitive candidates will prioritize excellence in teaching and demonstrate a student-centered approach that supports diverse learners. A strong commitment to blending theory and practice, in line with the institution’s mission, is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of undergraduate courses (24 credit hours per academic year).
  • Advise and mentor students in course selection, research, and post-graduate planning.
  • Develop and maintain a focused research agenda.
  • Provide service to the community, helping to enhance experiential learning opportunities.
  • Contribute to the governance and mission of the institution.
  • Maintain engagement with relevant professional organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Exercise Science or a closely related field is required for appointment at the Assistant Professor level.
  • Candidates with a master’s degree in Exercise Science or a closely related field may be considered for an Instructor position.
  • Demonstrated oral proficiency in the English language as required by state law.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Experience working with professional, collegiate, or community exercise science organizations.
  • Evidence of an active research agenda and a record of peer-reviewed scholarship.
  • Relevant national certifications, such as:
    • National Certification in Strength and Conditioning Coaching (CSCS)
    • National Certification in Personal Training (CPT)
