EHS Specialist II

Mueller is seeking an EHS Specialist to join our team.
The primary function of the EHS Specialist is to assist the EHS Department with the implementation of training requirements, management of training records, compliance records, and provide support within the EHS department. This position will be required to travel between the three Decatur locations. An occasional 3rd shift may also be required as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist EHS Manager with the development of FY health and safety objectives, targets and processes
Manage Hazardous and Nonhazardous Waste programs
Manage site air permits
Manage site water permits
Provide environmental training to staff and employees as needed
Complete all regulatory reporting requirements, including SARA 311/312, SARA 313, Biannual Hazardous Waste report, water sampling reports and Annual Emissions Report
Assist with compliance audits and developing and implementing an internal audit process for the sites
Responsible for the maintenance and operations of the sites' environmental control devices
Assist with the Development and implementation of the site environmental policies and procedures
Drive the completion and continuous improvement of the risk assessment process (health / safety)
Develop, implement and continuously improve all health and safety elements within the EHS Management System:
Ensuring compliance with the Mueller Co EHSMS which will include expectations established within OHSAS 18001, VPP, best practices, and local / federal regulations
Management of Change for any relevant modifications and/or changes to processes, equipment, plant layout, or people
START Observation process utilized to increase the quality and quantity of safety conversations
Champion the Industrial Hygiene process
Lead health and safety audits and inspections to identify and correct potential hazards
Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to all site personnel on health and safety initiatives.
Facilitate or conduct the analysis of incidents, including first aid and near hits, and the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions
Effectively provide and/or coordinate education/training at the facility necessary to recognize, evaluate and control workplace health and safety hazards
Submits First Report of Injury and maintain OSHA logs, Dakota database, completes assigned monthly reports and maintains health and safety statistics
Serve as Primary Emergency Response coordinator for Plant Emergencies; Supervise the operation and training of plant emergency personnel and equipment
Manage workers’ compensation injuries and return-to-work activities. Liaison between company and any outside medical source; coordinates new hire physicals, annual hearing exams and maintains employee medical and worker compensation files
Perform all other duties as assigned
Required Experience and/or Education:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of employees and outside professionals. Must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks and determine priorities
