Job Description | POSITION SUMMARY The Executive Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs provides strategic leadership for the college’s external funding initiatives, aligning grant activities with institutional priorities. This role oversees the entire grant lifecycle—from identifying funding opportunities and guiding proposal development to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and managing post-award processes. By fostering a culture that values external funding and effective grant management, the Executive Director plays a pivotal role in supporting the college’s mission and goals. The Executive Director leads the Grants and Sponsored Programs Department, overseeing staff and managing operations, budgeting, and planning. They collaborate with faculty, administrators, and external partners to identify funding opportunities and guide the grant process. The Executive Director ensures compliance with all regulations, mitigates risks, and upholds the integrity of the college’s operations. Through continuous evaluation and improvement, they ensure effective and transparent grant administration, contributing significantly to the institution’s growth. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES · Extensive knowledge of grant compliance and management, including working knowledge of laws and regulations (e.g., Uniform Guidance) governing the management and expenditure of federal and state funds. · Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills and editing abilities. · Ability to independently and collaboratively research a variety of topics, conduct analysis, and identify trends affecting higher education and public and private funding. · Ability to think strategically and analytically and to synthesize ideas into a compelling proposal narrative. · Ability to work collaboratively with College counterparts to develop a grantmaking strategy consistent with the College’s Master Plan and emerging funding trends. · Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize department objectives and responsibilities. · Ability to develop and manage grant and department budgets to achieve goals and objectives. · Ability to work well under pressure and to meet strict guidelines and deadlines while maintaining a sense of perspective and collegiality with all stakeholders. · Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills and ability to work cooperatively with College leadership, faculty, staff, and funding agency personnel in designing mutually beneficial proposals and projects. · Independence, dependability, and conscientiousness, with self-imposed initiative and motivation. · Proficiency with computer technology and software such as the Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Lead the strategic planning for grants that align with the institutional goals of the college, fostering a campus-wide culture that increases awareness, understanding, and participation in grant-funded projects. Provide strategic leadership for all phases of the grant development process, from prospecting and concept development to proposal writing and timely submission, ensuring alignment with the College’s strategic goals. Identify and evaluate funding sources that align with current and planned College initiatives, encouraging and supporting faculty, administrators, and staff in pursuing these opportunities. Oversee and guide grant proposal teams, coordinating the development, review, and editing of proposals; ensure proposals receive appropriate institutional approval and are submitted in accordance with deadlines. Lead pre-award compliance efforts by developing and implementing internal compliance processes, communicating grant compliance requirements, providing training to grant leaders and project personnel, and monitoring adherence to applicable regulations and policies. Provide executive oversight for all post-award functions, including monitoring deliverables, budgets, evaluations, training, and compliance reporting; assist grant project personnel as needed to ensure successful project implementation. Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the College’s grant database; regularly update stakeholders on funding opportunities and provide periodic reports on grant submissions and awards to the College leadership. Develop and oversee the delivery of training programs for internal audiences on grant development processes, grants management, and compliance requirements to build institutional capacity. Serve as the primary liaison with grantor program officers at federal, state, and local agencies, as well as private foundations, regarding funding availability, eligibility, and proposal development inquiries. Collaborate with other colleges, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to develop partnerships that enhance grant opportunities and institutional initiatives. Manage the operations of the Grants and Sponsored Programs Department, including supervising staff and developing, recommending and monitoring the department’s budget to ensure efficient use of resources. Lead and serve on internal committees and advisory boards related to continuous quality improvement and strategic planning. |
Required Qualifications | Master’s Degree required, plus five (5) years’ experience in grant management or fund development. Demonstrated progressive experience and success in developing, leading, executing, and managing comprehensive grants or fund development programs that aligns with institutional goals and priorities |
Preferred Qualifications | Supervisory experience preferred. |
Physical Demands | Must be able to receive, process, and provide visual and verbal information. Must be able to work effectively in stressful situations. Provide timely response to externally imposed conditions and deadlines. Respond to concurrent, multiple non-related issues. Work is routinely performed in office environment. Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling, using hands and fingers, stooping and occasional lifting of objects up to 10 lbs. |
