EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
Monday thru Friday, from 6am to 2pm or 7am to 3pm with occasional evenings during special events i.e. high-profile visitors, graduations, etc. The Richland Department of Public Safety is a hybrid department consisting of police officers and security officers; on rare occasions, an RCC police officer might be asked to fill in, during any shift when an emergency shortage occurs within the police or security department. If a critical incident should take place, the officer might be mandated to work until the emergency is under control.
TRAVEL
Some travel for training may be required and some local travel is expected.

Job Description | POSITION SUMMARY The Richland Community College Department of Public Safety is a hybrid department that currently employs 3 full time Campus Police Officers (CPO) and 5 non-sworn security officers. The CPO will be responsible for the day to day protection and welfare of the of students, faculty, staff, visitors and Campus properties by enforcing state laws, local ordinances, and the Student Code of Conduct on the RCC campus or College controlled properties. The CPO performs foot and vehicle patrols of the campus to monitor behavior, secure buildings and property, maintain order during events, and enforce criminal and traffic laws. When necessary, the CPO will arrest and transport offenders to the county jail. Additionally, the CPO will serve as a primary contact between the students and the campus police. The CPO must be able to maintain a professional demeanor in crisis situations and the ability to act as a positive role model for the student population. The CPO will employ a focus on community policing in order to assure a safe campus environment. This is a security sensitive position and subject to background investigation and random drug screening. Recent changes in legislation may require additional tests such as psychological testing. |
Required Qualifications | MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or GED required. Current certification as a Law Enforcement Officer under Illinois statutes or ability to become Illinois certified within a year from the date of hire. A work history that demonstrates a high degree of responsibility, maturity, judgment and the ability to multitask. Experience in law enforcement or related fields i.e. police or fire dispatching, professional level security or corrections is a plus. |

Physical Demands | Ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions. Ability to be on your feet for long periods of time. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force in order to lift, carry, push, or pull or otherwise move objects. Ability to receive, process, and provide visual and verbal information Must be able to work effectively in stressful situations Ability to respond to concurrent, multiple, non-relate issues. Ability to operate various machinery and equipment such as vehicles, computer, two-way radio, cellular phones, pagers, siren, etc. |
