Job Description
The Kitchen Lead provides support and leadership to the culinary operations for the Cafe. The lead is responsible for assisting the Food Service Manager with the day to day planning and operation of food service for the Café and catering events. The kitchen lead provides direct leadership, on a fill-in basis, for the Café and catering operations when the Food Service Manager is unavailable.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist daily planning and execution of food service for the Café and catering events, utilizing resources effectively.
  • Assist Food Service Manager with menu planning, organization, cleaning and all aspect of kitchen area.
  • Lead the Café operations including food prep, daily execution of the menu and service standards.
  • Provide excellent customer service to students, staff and customers utilizing the Café.
  • Ensure that proper sanitation practices are being followed. Bringing any issues to the Food Service Manager to address.
  • Assist the Catering Lead and Food Service Manager with catering event preparation and execution as needed.
  • Responsible for the safe transport of food and supplies for catering events as needed.
  • Provide supervision of culinary staff as needed in the Food Service Managers absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts or a related field. A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a commercial food service setting. Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification required or obtained within 6 months of hire. Valid driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
Richland Culinary Arts Institute graduate preferred.
Certification from the American Culinary Federation preferred
Physical Demands
Must be able to receive, process, and provide visual and verbal information.
Must be able to work effectively in stressful situations.
Provide timely response to externally/internally imposed conditions and deadlines.
Respond to concurrent, multiple, non-related issues.
Work is routinely performed in kitchen environment. Subject to standing for an extended period of time. Also subject to walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling, using hands and fingers, stooping and occasional lifting and carrying of objects up to 30 lbs over a distance of 200 feet.
Salary N-8 $19.34/hr
