Job Description
The Director provides leadership and coordination of learning support across all instructional modalities. This includes promoting the development of diverse course and program offerings, supporting faculty in implementing effective teaching strategies, and reviewing instructional materials and methods to enhance course quality and delivery. The Director also oversees instructional training for all teaching formats in-person, hybrid, and remote and leads new instructor training to ensure consistent instructional standards and alignment with institutional goals and develops and facilitates professional development programs that promote excellence in teaching, learning, and student success.
Required Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A master’s degree in an appropriate field of study is required, along with a minimum of three years of teaching experience in higher education. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in instructional design, curriculum development, and instructional training across all modalities. Experience in new instructor training, faculty development, and the promotion of effective teaching and learning practices are essential. The Director must also possess a strong ability to collaborate across departments to enhance instructional quality, advance equity, and improve overall student outcomes. Three years’ experience with academic learning management systems (Canvas) is required. Must be a Richland Community College employee.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The Director must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators across all levels of the institution. The position requires strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic academic environment. Additionally, the Director must be capable of developing, managing, and tracking budgets, including the oversight of day-to-day expenditures and resource allocation to support departmental and institutional goals.
Preferred Qualifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Establish a comprehensive faculty development program and review teaching materials and methods for instructors, provide guidance on course content and delivery effectiveness, and serve as a resource in implementing appropriate pedagogical initiatives for course materials.
Develop and maintain a program to monitor and assess the effectiveness of online courses and programs and to continuously improve training course material (equipment, presentation, and modes of delivery).
In collaboration with the Instructional Technology Specialist, develop and maintain a training course for new instructors to orient them to essential Canvas functions and pedagogical strategies.
Serve as chair of the Instructional Task Force, responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures that support instructional quality and innovation across all teaching modalities. Oversee the online peer review process, ensuring that courses meet established standards of instructional effectiveness and that faculty receive constructive feedback to enhance teaching and learning
Direct the activities of the Online Support Specialist, the Instructional Technology Specialist, and student workers.
Work collaboratively with technical support staff to ensure that effective instructional technologies and delivery systems are in place to support teaching and learning across all modalities. Recommend and implement appropriate classroom and instructional technologies that enhance faculty effectiveness and student engagement.
Maintain technical fluency and current knowledge of the College’s learning management system, instructional technologies, and relevant training methods. Collaborate with faculty and academic teams focused on teaching and pedagogy to ensure best practices are implemented across all instructional modalities. Stay informed of emerging tools and approaches that enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes.
