What you will do:
The Manufacturing Sanitation Lead verifies all sanitation operations and directly collaborates with assigned employees and production supervisors engaged in cleaning/sanitation activities to ensure that plant operations meet mandatory sanitation requirements for machinery, equipment and facilities. This includes coordinating with shift supervisors on the work and resources needed to perform the daily tasks, addressing product and employee complaints and resolving problems related to sanitation issues. This person carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies, OSHA regulations and applicable laws.
Here’s a day in the life:
· Implements and maintains plant sanitation programs and ensures compliance with company policies as stated in the food safety manual.
· Assemble team to review recommended changes to CIP circuits
· Continually audits sanitation and CIP/COP processes to ensure compliance with MSS and SSOPs
· On at least an annual basis validates all plant CIP circuits
· Audit of the chemical supplier system checks and verify their findings on a weekly basis
· Oversees plant Master Sanitation program
· Verify the completion of the MSS sheets weekly
· Validate the program through checks of systems and equipment to ensure the correct frequency. Ensure all required machinery is included in the program
· Collaborates with the maintenance planner on the master sanitation items
· Works with Production and other management to plan and schedule work of supervised staff to meet sanitation schedules while maximizing productivity
· Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems
· Collaborates with QA staff to troubleshoot and analyze sanitation-related issues
· Recommends measures to continuously improve sanitation methods, equipment performance, and quality of products produced and distributed by the plant
· Validates SOPs annually or when systems are modified
· Integral part of the internal audit is to perform validation of SOP’s
· Manages relationships with outside vendors such as the plant chemical supplier
· Able to inventory and order supplies as needed
· Write necessary work orders to ensure equipment and CIP programs are repaired or modified based on recommendations
· Collaborates with managers and supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments including production to identify, solve and prevent problems affecting sanitation
· Provides feedback to production staff on assignments for employees in sanitation tasks
· Trains and instructs employees in regard to sanitation standards, SSOPs and objectives. Oversees instruction, implementation and enforcement of policies as they relate to sanitation.
· Leads by example. This includes following company policies, standards and specifications
· Performs other duties as assigned.
· Must possess a working technical knowledge of sanitation operations and be able to maintains knowledge of current and developing sanitation techniques.
· Working knowledge of HACCP, PCQI Certified a plus
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
· Demonstrate excellent verbal/written communication skills
· Handle multiple tasks simultaneously
· Demonstrate organization and prioritization, and attention to detail
· Act as a strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
· A high school diploma or GED is required
· Minimum 2 years of dairy or food plant experience, including sanitation duties
Physical requirements:
· Sitting
· Standing and/or walking
· Lifting 25 lbs
· Vision for machine or computer operations
· Hearing
· Ability to climb stairs
Working Conditions:
· Space can be crowded with manufacturing equipment; and noisy.
· My not be temperature controlled.
· Will include entering production facility and walking on uneven, slippery surfaces.
· Must remain aware of forklift traffic.
· Some areas can be dusty.
· May encounter extremes in temperature.
· Requires standing entire shift, walking on uneven, slippery surfaces, stooping, bending and crouching and climbing ladders.
· Duties may include repetitive motion of hands, lifting up to 55 pounds and climbing stairs.
Food Safety Responsibility for All Employees:
· Follow and uphold Employee Safety policies and procedures outlined in the employee safety meetings, employee handbook, posted in the work environment, and/or as directed by supervisory staff.
· Report any food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
· Follow and uphold procedures outlined in the Food Safety Plan and the Food Quality Plan and any other programs that support the SQF system and other 3rd party programs/audits.
