Food Safety Coordinator

What you will do:

The Food Safety Coordinator plays a vital role in maintaining and improving food safety standards within our organization. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring food safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and industry best practices. The coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for food safety matters and will work closely with production, quality assurance, and management teams to promote a culture of food safety excellence.

Here’s a day in the life:

  • Develop, update, and maintain food safety policies, procedures, and documentation in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., FDA, USDA, HACCP, FSMA).

  • Conduct regular food safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.

  • Coordinate and lead food safety training programs for staff at all levels, ensuring ongoing education and awareness of proper food handling practices.

  • Investigate food safety incidents, non-conformances, and customer complaints; implement corrective and preventive actions as needed.

  • Monitor and verify sanitation and hygiene practices throughout the facility, including equipment cleaning and pest control.

  • Oversee the maintenance of records related to food safety, traceability, and regulatory compliance.

  • Assist with management during 3rd party inspections and audits.

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging food safety regulations, technologies, and industry trends.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to food safety and quality management systems.

  • Utilizes LIMS, D365, and RedZone to log Quality Control tests, verify item completion, lookup inventory and product/ingredient dispositions, and create purchase orders.

  • Trained in QA and lab functions to substitute when needed.

  • Demonstrate reliable and predictable attendance on site.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Pay Information:

  • This is an hourly position with a starting wage of $ $27.51.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • High school diploma is required. Associate degree and/or food or dairy science coursework is preferred. Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Public Health, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is a plus.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in food safety, quality assurance, or a related role within the food industry.

  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP, SQF, BRC).

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to lead training and interface with diverse teams.

  • Attention to detail and strong analytical/problem-solving abilities.

  • Certification in food safety (e.g., HACCP, PCQI, ServSafe) preferred.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with food safety management software is a plus.

  • Working Conditions

  • Work will require time on the production floor, working with chemicals), exposure to food processing environments, time in office spaces, and occasional off-shift or weekend hours for audits or training sessions.

  • Production floor may have uneven floors, stairs, and wet surfaces. Employees work in areas with forklifts and other heavy equipment; and in areas with fluctuating temperatures, including freezers, refrigerated areas, hot and ambient

  • Entering the worksite and traveling between levels in the worksite will require frequent use of stairs.

  • Some domestic travel may be required for external audits, training, or industry events.
