The United Way of Decatur and Mid-Illinois is largely a volunteer-driven organization. By using volunteers to help us raise funds through our annual campaign, we are able to keep our administrative expenses at just 14% of our overall budget. By keeping our administrative expenses down, we are able to direct your charitable dollars back into the community to support programs and projects working to improve the quality of life in Macon and DeWitt Counties. Each year, we reach out to the community to help us provide funding for community needs through our annual campaign. Our campaign traditionally runs from early September through late November. During this timeframe, we solicit individual gifts as well as carry out workplace campaigns to help us meet our campaign goal. We rely on the hard work and dedication of over 300 volunteers to help us spread the United Way message. In April, 2005, our Board of Directors voted to approve 22 Endorsed Agencies. These 22 agencies met 17 standards developed by United Way to review fiscal responsibility, board involvement, and organizational ethics. United Way Endorsed Agencies are eligible to apply for United Way funding for programs that are addressing needs in the United Way's Community Impact Vision Statements: Youth Development - Every youth in our community will successfully graduate from high school with the support of their family unit and the community at-large and will move on to post-secondary education or employment that meets the basic needs of the employee and his or her dependents. Access to Healthcare - Every individual in our community will have access to affordable health, mental health, and dental services including access to prescription medicines to treat their illnesses. Community Basics - United Way will continue to address the critical needs of Macon County by investing in programs and/or services which respond to indivdiual or community crisis or provide services that promote self-sufficiency while providing the basics of life - food, shelter, economic well-being, and protection from violence. United Way volunteers will review all funding applications and make funding recommendations based on progam outcomes. United Way wants you to know that your funding dollars are making a great positive impact in our community.
